Obsessed with money ?

Aspirations to earn more money ? Expectations of a sense of fulfilment ? Money a measurement of success ?

We find these conclusions throughout life. Throughout we are told of our mission in life “Get good grades, and you will achieve in life” “well paid jobs only come to those who achieve, high in school, college, Uni, Work”  But what is this ultimate life accomplishment? What is the well paid job ? The success we all wait for in life.  Why do I ask these questions you ask, I have seen people stuck in their bubbles, frustrated. As life passes some by, others tell widely of their success. But this success is always measured the same …… In terms of money ad course.

Jose Mujica. Who ? The president of Urguay, else known as “the poorest president in the world”. Once quoted that world leaders have a "blind obsession to achieve growth with consumption, as if the contrary would mean the end of the world". I found myself staggered by the truth behind this, is this why people now base the success of their life on shear earnings. What has happened in this world, to cause life experiences to lack any value.

The constant obsession of growth that western leaders tell the public we should desire. Larger economies, more houses, more industry, more technology. The “we want to put more money in your back pocket” speech and so forth. Whilst adverts tell us to buy lottery tickets and gamble to win unimaginable amounts of money. We sit in our homes watching talent shows, as people fight to win money. Some of us even idealise those who are unlucky enough to take part in this free for all. We find ourselves working more, to pay for more, whilst we always find ourselves on the back foot. This takes me back to Jose Mujica, “Poor people are those who only work to try to keep an expensive lifestyle, and always want more and more,"
This I find is so true, the use of money to buy bigger houses, bigger cars, more subscriptions more of everything. Why ? when all this ‘growth’ only rubs salt into the wound. We now find that due to our increase in earnings, we need another increase of earnings, to afford our ‘growth’ after the last increase. But what else should we do ? maybe we should learn….  More earnings should enable us to decrease our outgoings. Renewable energy, smaller cars, smaller more efficient houses, Less subscriptions. With less outgoings we can add real value to life ! real experiences, valued relationships, stop meaningless idealisation of celebs and become rich in a different sense.

Only when we realise the use of our money in our society, will we know what to do with it. We need to learn our own life desires. Has the celeb earning millions, with various homes, and a fleet of vehicles gained success in life? The banker with a healthy pay cheque, and two cars. Or has the person who earns little, gives their time and earnings on experiences, people and relationships, instead of belongings found success ? I tend to agree with the latter….
