A camera to far ?
The future of cameras
On hearing the news of the police now being issued with
personal cameras, I begun wondering at what point will the growth of cameras
slow. We now find the companies and authorities filming the public and then
public filming them back. A strange circle in which cameras face all angles, adding to this the media companies then turn up to document the two sides filming each other. A rather strange circle if you ask me.......
The police and security firms first begun using cctv to
fight crime. Deterring crime and gathering evidence. Their positives are
massive, cheap policing/security for everyone. We now find cameras creeping
into our lifestyle from all angles. Companies use cctv as their main security
deterrent, and authorities use their cameras to maintain a level of
accountability.
Over the last few years mobile phone cameras have become the
next step in cctv. With the public using their mobiles to film the authorities
at high profile riots and protests. The public now regularly film the emergency
services whenever they come into contact. And now the emergency services are
taking the leap to issue their personnel with personal cameras. This will no
doubly increase the accountability of the personnel.
For the public, Cyclists are now using cameras on their
bikes and helmets, to monitor other road users. The majority of Russian
motorists using road cameras in their cars, and these road cameras are
spreading around the world. But what will be the next step? Pedestrian cameras,
or just personal cameras to cover our everyday lives ?
